A sweet proposal.

It's not often I'm asked to be part of a special secret like this, and I was completely honoured. The proposal went well, and the couple are off to a new adventure :)

The cupcakes are chocolate with chocolate buttercream. Fondant pieces are all hand-made.

Here's to the sweet couple.

Double Happiness for old friends.

I recently found out that an old primary schoolmate of mine is getting married in December. He told me that his fiancee was thinking of giving away some pre-wedding cupcakes to her colleagues. She had in mind the Chinese character 'hei', which signifies double happiness - a character commonly associated with Chinese weddings. Prior to this, I'd not written much in Chinese before, let alone pipe in buttercream. So with much trepidation, I proceeded to practice and practice with leftover buttercream. I got it right from the get-go, much to my mom's and my surprise.

Here are half of the cupcakes which were presented that day.

Upon their request, I created slightly different designs to differentiate the three flavours of cupcakes.

I'm incredibly proud of these beauties. Mostly because I was able to make a special couple really happy, and make my mom proud of my rudimentary piping of Chinese characters.

Close-up of the three different designs: Medium pink one with three blossoms was chocolate cake. Pale pink one had marble cake, and the red one was coffee cake. All three were iced with vanilla buttercream.

Thomas the Tank Engine Cupcakes

A very dear friend from London requested some very special cupcakes for her beloved nephew who was turning four. She mentioned that he loved Thomas the Tank Engine, so I said I would try to make something very cute for him.

These are chocolate cupcakes with vanilla buttercream. The characters and lettering are handmade from fondant.

Happy Birthday, Vish! I hope you liked your Thomas cupcakes.

Hari Raya Cupcakes

This past Hari Raya Aidilfitr, I received a couple of orders from a dear friend. She wanted some special cupcakes for two of her friends celebrating the festival. She mostly left the details to me, but stated that she would love to have some amount of variety in the set.

So, I decided to put together three different flavours, and was able to, surprisingly, fit in tiramisu cupcakes along with some marble and chocolate ones.

The outer ring of cupcakes are tiramisu; middle ring ones are marble with vanilla, and the 'ketupat' ones are chocolate and vanilla.

Diagonal view of the arrangement.

I really love the little ketupats I piped out of buttercream.

Look at how teeny tiny they are.

Maureen & Elson - Wedding Cupcake Tiers.

I recently made my first real wedding cake. Technically, it was a cake with cupcake tiers and a cutting cake at the top. It's a really new trend that's just about catching on here in Malaysia. I am most grateful to have been given the honour to make the cake for this beautiful couple.

The cupcake tiers from the side view. I made the entire stand by myself using cake boards, styrofoam dummies, pretty textured paper and loads of satin ribbon.

Slightly higher view to show the different tiers. I made these tiers closer in size because the customer wanted height but not too large a quantity of cupcakes.

View from the top. I had to stand on a chair to take this photo. Love how it looks from up there.

Close-up of the top cake, which was also the cutting cake. It is covered in ivory fondant which is starting to bubble a little because of the heat. The pink ribbon bow and all the flowers are also handmade using fondant.

The lovely newlyweds cutting their cake.

The inside of the cutting cake - it's dark chocolate espresso cake with orange creamsicle buttercream. Very yummy, if I may say so myself.

Sexy layers of cake, with just the right amount of buttercream.

Thanks, Michelle, for the wonderful opportunity to make this cake for your sister and your new brother-in-law. I hope that it was a sweet surprise for them.

Engagement and 'Hantaran' cupcakes

We had our first 'hantaran' cupcakes order recently. 'Hantaran' is the Malay term for dowry gifting presented from the groom's family to the bride's family. We came up with an ornate design along the colour theme of the wedding.

These are regular-sized cupcakes, with fondant toppers. The roses, blossoms and leaves are all handmade from fondant and dusted with edible shimmer powder.

Our friends also ordered a set of cupcakes for their own family too. I made a simple but cute arrangement for them. These cupcakes were marble cake with vanilla buttercream.

Here's wishing the lovely couple a happy engagement, and a happy marriage in the near future.

Amelia's Mini Cake

As promised, I am now posting about Amelia's mini cake which I specially made for her birthday. It's really quite tiny as you'll see in one of the photos, but just perfect for one person.

I decided on a two-tier mini cake, both covered in pale green fondant which I then piped little swiss dots with royal icing. For a sweet touch, I added a pretty pink ribbon around the bottom of each tier. Two cute pink blossoms adorn the top, and a lavender butterfly completed the cake.

Cute, isn't it?

Beautiful butterflies.

I made Amelia a mini cake for her birthday, which I will post about shortly after this. For the rest of the guests, I made some souffle cheese cupcakes, which is my present favourite. I iced them with a thin layer of vanilla buttercream, and laid fondant butterflies on the top just for fun. I added some tiny details on the butterflies with royal icing.

Flutter, flutter....

Soccer balls and cupcakes.

A dear friend ordered some cupcakes and cookies for her husband's birthday. They are newlyweds so I wanted to make them really special for them. She mentioned that he loves football (soccer, to my American friends), so football cookies it was! Along with some really guy cool birthday cupcakes :)

Cool cupcakes for a cool guy.

Awesome football cookies. I had WAY too much fun making these!

Aren't they just the cutest couple??!? Hopefully also happy customers.

For the guys.

Most people love our cupcake designs, but I find them to be a little on the, well, pretty side :) So, when I received a few cupcake orders dedicated to some guys, I decided to create some nice graphic designs.

For a badminton fan, we decided on a badminton court design (very abstract), and added the prerequisite racquets and shuttlecock. These were Chocolate cupcakes with Vanilla buttercream.

I just ADORE these stripes in this colour combination. These were souffle cheese cupcakes covered in Vanilla buttercream.

My first farewell cupcake order from an ex-schoolmate for her cousin. These were Marble cupcakes in Chocolate and Vanilla buttercream.

Birthday Cupcakes for the Gals.

We've had the honour of making some cupcakes for some birthday celebrations lately, and I would like to share them with you. These are derived from our signature designs, with the messages added into the set.

A wonderful mix of Marble and Coffee buttercream, Vanilla with Chocolate buttercream, and Chocolate with Vanilla buttercream for an aunt of a friend.

A special design for a customer who requested for pink blossoms and Tiffany-blue ribbon bows.

A few of our custom designs....

A small collection of custom designs that were requested by our beloved customers. We can custom design a message or special design for a large order at a small extra cost.

The Grape Escape

My husband Jonathan, is the Commercial Manager for a leading wine and spirits distributor here in KL. He was organizing a wine training seminar for his sales team and wanted some cupcakes as part of the motivation factor, along with some other goodies. I already had in mind to do some cupcakes with grapes as part of the design, so I came up with this bunch (pun very intended)

The design wasn't difficult to pipe except for the fact that I had to do them really quickly because the buttercream kept melting from the heat from my hand.

The cupcake is marble with a vanilla buttercream.

Twenty five bunches of lovely cabernet sauvignon grapes, all piped in buttercream, of course.

Ready for it's close-up.

Cupcakes for a good cause

We catered our first corporate event on the 15th of July. It was a special order that came from Giant Hypermarket in Kota Damansara, in conjunction with Hewlett-Packard. They were throwing a special fête for a group of 40 orphans, and thought that cupcakes were in order for the event. I was very pleased to get the phone call.

As soon as I heard that they were for children, colourful pastel colours were popping around in my head. I really don't care for garish colours on anything edible, and it's quite alarming how many brightly-coloured baked goods you see out there in the market. I figured that pastels would be just as appealing to the young ones.

Pastel coloured buttercream with colourful non-pareils sprinkled all over the top.

I love how they look all arranged like this.

~Pleasance~

Chocolate Blossom Dream

I was asked to make a really special chocolate cake for my grandma's church ladies group meet. It was for their monthly birthday celebration, and this July was extra special because it was my grandma's birth month.

I came up with this for them: four soft layers of chocolate cake sandwiched between chocolate buttercream, and then glazed with a layer of bittersweet chocolate ganache. I thought that the cake looked fantastic as is, and did a minimal amount of decorating on the top with buttercream lettering and fondant blossoms.

I love the contrast of the pale blossoms on the dark chocolate.

Do you LOVE cookies?

We've been commissioned to design and bake some many hundred cookies for a client's wedding in November. I have since ordered the special shaped cookie cutter which I cannot mention right now because I want to keep it a surprise until the event. But I did want the bride and groom to sample the cookies just to make sure that was exactly what they wanted.

So, we had our way with some heart-shaped cookie cutters. These are buttery sugar cookies that we used. We decorated them with royal icing and came up with a few fun designs. We'll be keeping these in mind for next Valentine's Day.

Sweet Love. Enough said.

Other cute designs we came up with. Had some tiny little accidents on a couple of them.

Please contact us if you're interested in our cookies. Pricing depends on complication of design and shape of the cookie.

Cupcakes for the Yong Family party

It had been more than 10 years since I last saw my cousin Veron, her husband Allan and their children. We were very pleased to be invited to their huge family get-together on the 5th of July at their beautiful home. I made some cupcakes to share with everyone, and I am very thankful for the very warm reception. ~Pleasance~

We decided to make four flavours for the party with a total of 100 petite cupcakes:
Marble with coffee buttercream,
Chocolate with vanilla buttercream,
Orange with chocolate buttercream,
Marble with vanilla buttercream.

A pretty sight, if I may say so myself. Shortly after this pic was taken, half the cupcakes disappeared.

Cupcake flavours and designs

Hello everyone,

It's about time we updated this blog and introduce you to our cupcake flavours with their signature designs. Each individual cupcake flavour has a unique design which we came up with for artistic fun.

We love our cakes so much that we only use all-natural and fresh ingredients. Our butter is pure New Zealand butter and cream from the UK. We use imported cocoa powder and bittersweet chocolate, real coffee and real vanilla in our cakes and buttercreams. You will not find any chemicals or preservatives in our products.
